PROGRAM
OFFERINGS
The
Game Plan for Life program focuses on four central areas. They include
discipline, education, community service, and basketball.
Discipline
We require our youth to be devoted to maintaining a schedule of
their daily events. Keeping a calendar helps to instill the importance
of dedication. All of this is done to maximize their potential on
and off the court.
Education
We partner with other education programs, volunteer tutors and professional
educators to assure that every young person in the program has the
opportunity to receive the support they need to succeed. We utilize
an in-house assessment program to determine the initial level of
academic support. We are then able to adjust that level accordingly
during the course of the school year.
Community
Service
We also require that each youth participate in at least 10 hours
of community service per year. Game Plan for Life works with community
based organizations to provide community awareness opportunities
for our student athletes. Youth will be required to attend several
community building activities that teach the importance of team
work while helping others that may be less fortunate.
Athletic
Participation
Game Plan for Life's goal is to field youth basketball teams in
each of the following age groups: 10 and Under to 17 and Under.
Each team will consist of 10-12 players that will compete in local,
regional, and national tournaments. Coaches will focus on team and
individual development while teaching the players the importance
of preparation and competition.
TARGET
POPULATION
The
program targets boys and girls between the ages of 10-17 for participation.
These youth come from all over the Central Texas area and encompass
various racial and socio-economic backgrounds. The youth are referred
to the program by school coaches or attend open try-outs and are
chosen on the basis of attitude, work ethic and talent. Each player
strives to maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average in college
prep classes.
